Laurent FAUCHIER est né dans cette rue d’Aix le 11 mars 1643.
Il fut un portraitiste local au talent immense qui refusa à plusieurs reprises les nombreuses invitations pour aller exercer son art à Paris afin de rester dans sa ville natale.

Laurent FAUCHIER meurt le 25 mars 1672, à l’âge de 29 ans à peine, en peignant le portrait de Madame de GRIGNAN. Elle est la fille de Madame de SÉVIGNY et la femme de François de GRIGNAN, gouverneur de Provence. Les circonstances autour de son décès brutal restent mystérieuses, mais l’on raconte qu’il y aurait un lien entre sa mort et la déclaration d’amour qu’il fit à Madame de GRIGNAN, lorsque celle-ci était occupée à poser pour lui.
