Moïse LAROQUE est né à Aix le 4 décembre 1816.

Il fut avocat et commerçant et c’est à ce titre qu’il finit par être élu président du Tribunal du commerce de 1868 à 1876 tout en cumulant la fonction de conseiller municipal de la ville d’Aix de 1865 à 1874. Il est décoré de la Légion d’honneur en 1877.

Mais ce qui le rendit célèbre, c’est qu’il fit l’acquisition de l’Aqueduc DECORMIS qui alimentait en eau les rues proches du Cours MIRABEAU. Dans la nuit du 3 au 4 novembre 1880, lors d’un violent orage, l’aqueduc s’est trouvé obstrué et les eaux inondèrent les caves de plusieurs riverains. Le « Syndic DECORMIS », réunissant Moïse LAROQUE et deux autres propriétaires, dut payer des dommages et intérêts aux copropriétaires sinistrés par cette inondation. Moïse LAROQUE intenta alors une action en justice contre la Ville d’Aix afin de se faire rembourser. Le verdict, en sa défaveur, tomba en 1889, neuf ans plus tard !

Moïse LAROQUE meurt dans sa ville natale le 9 octobre 1896 à l’âge de 79 ans.

Sans rancune, les héritières firent don à la Ville de cet aqueduc. Reconnaissante, la Ville d’Aix baptisa l’une de ses rues à savoir la Rue SAINT-LAURENT en la mémoire de Moïse LAROQUE peu de temps après son décès.

Moïse LAROQUE was born in Aix on December 4, 1816.

He was a lawyer and merchant and it is in this capacity that he ended up being elected president of the Commercial Court from 1868 to 1876 while simultaneously holding the office of municipal councilor of the city of Aix from 1865 to 1874. He was decorated of the Legion of Honor in 1877.

But what made him famous was that he acquired the DECORMIS Aqueduct which supplied water to the streets near Cours MIRABEAU. During the night of November 3-4, 1880, during a violent storm, the aqueduct was blocked and the water flooded the cellars of several residents. The "DECORMIS Trustee", bringing together Moïse LAROQUE and two other owners, had to pay damages to the co-owners affected by this flood. Moïse LAROQUE then brought legal action against the City of Aix in order to be reimbursed. The verdict, against him, fell in 1889, nine years later!

Moïse LAROQUE died in his hometown on October 9, 1896 at the age of 79.

Without resentment, the heiresses donated this aqueduct to the City. Grateful, the City of Aix baptized one of its streets namely Rue SAINT-LAURENT in memory of Moïse LAROQUE shortly after his death.
