Ferdinand FOCH est né le 2 octobre 1851, à Tarbes (Pyrénées).

Grand soldat français, brillant théoricien militaire, il est un des héros de la Première Guerre mondiale. Il se distingue lors de la victoire de la bataille de la Marne et lors des combats en Flandre. En 1916, à l’âge de 65 ans, il dirige la bataille de la Somme. En 1918, il est promu commandant en chef des troupes alliées par Georges Clémenceau. Il conduira les troupes alliées à la victoire finale lors de la seconde bataille de la Marne. Il est aussi l’un des signataires de l’armistice du 11 novembre 1918.

Le maréchal Ferdinand FOCH meurt à Paris le 20 mars 1929, à l’âge de 77 ans.

Le traité de Versailles fut signé un an plus tard, en 1919. Il était censé sceller une paix durable entre l’Allemagne et la France. Le maréchal FOCH prononcera alors cette phrase prophétique : « Ce n’est pas la paix, ce n’est qu’un armistice pour 20 ans ! ». La Seconde Guerre mondiale débutera 20 ans et 56 jours plus tard …

A great French soldier, brilliant military theorist, he was one of the heroes of the First World War. He distinguished himself during the victory of the Battle of the Marne and during the fighting in Flanders. In 1916, at the age of 65, he led the Battle of the Somme. In 1918, he was promoted commander-in-chief of the allied troops by Georges Clémenceau. He will lead the Allied troops to final victory in the second battle of the Marne. He is also one of the signatories of the armistice of November 11, 1918.

Marshal Ferdinand FOCH died in Paris on March 20, 1929, at the age of 77.
