Jean BOYER est né le 28 mai 1914 à Sainte-
Après de brillantes études auprès de la Faculté des lettres d’Aix, il est nommé conservateur des archives municipales de la Ville, poste qu’il occupera de 1937 à 1948.
Après la Seconde Guerre mondiale, il se passionne pour les arts et les livres provençaux.
En 1970, à l’âge de 56 ans, il obtient le titre de Dr ès Lettres à l’Université d’Aix. Il sera ensuite bibliothécaire à la Bibliothèque Méjanes.
En 1980, il obtient le titre de conservateur en chef honoraire des musées de France.
Au terme de nombreuses recherches, il écrira les livres suivants :
« La peinture et la gravure à Aix aux XVIe, XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles » (1971).
« Les Fontaines d’Aix » (1986).
« Architecture et urbanisme à Aix aux XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles : du cours à carrosses au Cours Mirabeau » (2004).
Il fut l’un des membres éminents du Félibrige avec le titre de "Mèstre d’obro" décerné aux félibres qui ont publié en provençal.
Jean BOYER meurt en 2004 à l’âge de 90 ans.

After brilliant studies at the Faculty of Letters in Aix, he was appointed curator of the city's municipal archives, a position he held from 1937 to 1948.
After World War II, he developed a passion for Provençal art and books.
In 1970, at the age of 56, he obtained the title of Dr ès Lettres at the University of Aix. He will then be librarian at the Méjanes Library.
In 1980, he obtained the title of honorary chief curator of the museums of France.
After much research, he wrote the following books:
“Painting and printmaking in Aix in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries” (1971).
"The Fountains of Aix" (1986).
"Architecture and town planning in Aix in the 17th and 18th centuries: from the carriage course to the Cours Mirabeau" (2004).
He was one of the distinguished members of the Félibrige with the title of "Mèstre d´obro" awarded to the Félibres who published in Provençal.
Jean BOYER died in 2004 at the age of 90.
