Joseph-Victor THIBAUD est né le 19 avril 1587 à Aix.

En 1605, il entre chez les minimes, ordre religieux catholique. Le nom de « minime » vient du mot italien « minimo », qui signifie « très petit ». Ces religieux s’imposaient une vie rigoureuse en ajoutant aux trois vœux franciscains de charité, obéissance et pauvreté celui de jeûne perpétuel. Ce dernier vœu était le signe distinctif de cet ordre religieux et consistait à s’abstenir de la consommation de tout produit d’origine animale, y compris les œufs et le lait, sauf en cas de maladie et sur prescription médicale.

Joseph-Victor THIBAUD prêcha dans beaucoup de provinces et enseigna la théologie à Lyon. Il deviendra ensuite le prédicateur personnel de Christine de France, duchesse de Savoie.

Il est l’auteur d’un grand nombre d’ouvrages portant sur la piété et la spiritualité.

Joseph-Victor THIBAUD meurt dans sa ville natale en 1662, à l’âge de 78 ans.

Joseph-Victor THIBAUD was born on April 19, 1587 in Aix.

In 1605, he joined the Minims, a Catholic religious order. The name “minimal” comes from the Italian word “minimo”, which means “very small”. These religious imposed a rigorous life on themselves, adding to the three Franciscan vows of charity, obedience and poverty that of perpetual fasting. This last vow was the hallmark of this religious order and consisted of abstaining from the consumption of any product of animal origin, including eggs and milk, except in cases of illness and on medical prescription.

Joseph-Victor THIBAUD preached in many provinces and taught theology in Lyon. He will then become the personal preacher of Christine of France, Duchess of Savoy.

He is the author of a large number of books on piety and spirituality.

Joseph-Victor THIBAUD died in his hometown in 1662, at the age of 78.
