Il ne s'agit pas de François DUPÉRIER, ami de MALHERBE, mais de son fils Scipion.

Vu l’importance de François de MALHERBE qui vécut souvent à Aix sur une période de 22 ans, l’on aurait pu croire que la Rue DUPÉRIER honorait François qui était son ami intime. D’ailleurs lorsque François DUPÉRIER perdit prématurément sa fille Marguerite en 1599, MALHERBE lui écrivit les célèbres vers de consolation : « Et Rose ... elle a vécu, ce que vivent les roses, l’espace d’un matin ».

Il n’en est rien, le Conseil municipal décida de changer la Rue SAINT-HIPPOLYTE non pas en François, mais bien en Scipion, son fils et frère de Marguerite.

Scipion DUPÉRIER est né en 1588 à Aix Rue RIFLE RAFLE.

Avocat comme beaucoup de membres de sa famille, il deviendra jurisconsulte. Appelé par ses pairs le « Caton d'Aix », il est considéré comme l'un des juristes aixois les plus fameux de son époque. En 1759, un éditeur réunira tous ses écrits réactualisés  sous le titre Oeuvres de Scipion Dupérier.

Scipion DUPERRIER meurt en 1667 à l’âge de 79 ans dans la même rue.

Scipion DUPÉRIER est né et mort Rue RIFLE-RAFLE. Logiquement, c'est cette dernière qui aurait dû porter son nom comme le prévoyait le maire Salomon BÉDARRIDE en 1879. Son neveu, Benjamin ABRAM, une fois maire en 1884, préféra la rue SAINT-HYPPOLITE.

Un certain François DUPERRIER junior est aussi digne d’intérêt. Né en 1750, il fut comédien dans la troupe de théâtre du célèbre MOLIÈRE qui l’appelait « le Provençal » jusqu’à ce qu’il soit fasciné, lors d’un séjour aux Pays-Bas, par une pompe à bras destinée à éteindre les incendies. Dès 1699, il présente sa trouvaille à LOUIS XIV. Mais ce n’est qu’en 1716, que ce dernier le nommera « directeur général des Pompes du Roy » et que douze pompes à incendies furent mises en service à Paris.

Considering the importance of François de MALHERBE who often lived in Aix over a period of 22 years, one would have thought that Rue DUPÉRIER honored François who was his close friend. Moreover, when François DUPÉRIER prematurely lost his daughter Marguerite in 1599, MALHERBE wrote her the famous verses of consolation: "And Rose ... she lived, what roses live, in the space of a morning".

It is not, the City Council decided to change Rue SAINT-HIPPOLYTE not into François, but into Scipion, his son and brother of Marguerite.

Scipion DUPÉRIER was born and died Rue RIFLE-RAFLE. Logically, it is the latter which should have borne his name as the mayor Salomon BÉDARRIDE predicted in 1879. His nephew, Benjamin ABRAM, once mayor in 1884, preferred the rue SAINT-HYPPOLITE.

A certain François DUPERRIER junior is also worthy of interest. Born in 1750, he was an actor in the theater troupe of the famous MOLIÈRE who called him "the Provençal" until he was fascinated, during a stay in the Netherlands, by a hand pump intended for extinguish fires. From 1699, he presented his find to LOUIS XIV. But it was not until 1716 that the latter appointed him "general manager of the Pompes du Roy" and that twelve fire pumps were put into service in Paris.
