François de MONTCORBIER est né à Paris en 1431 ou 1432.

Pauvre et orphelin très jeune, il est recueilli par Guillaume VILLON, chanoine d’église, qui lui donne son nom. François VILLON effectue ses études et il devient Maître ès Arts, alors qu’il n’a qu’une vingtaine d’années. Destiné à une brillante carrière, il préfère la compagnie de brigands. Délinquant, il blesse mortellement un curé lors d’une bagarre. Voyageur, bien malgré lui, François VILLON rencontre en 1458 un certain succès au concours de Blois organisé par Charles d’Orléans. Celui-ci, assigné à résidence par les Anglais, écrivait et organisait des manifestations littéraires pour tuer son ennui.

De toute l’œuvre de François VILLON, on retiendra surtout la « Ballade des Pendus » qu’il écrivit lorsqu’il fut certain d’être condamné à mort. Finalement sa peine fut commuée en exil.

En 1463, François VILLON disparaît sans laisser de traces rendant impossible la datation de sa mort.

Aujourd’hui encore, François VILLON est considéré comme le premier poète français de l’histoire de la Littérature.

Poor and orphaned at a very young age, he was taken in by Guillaume VILLON, a church canon, who gave him his name. François VILLON completed his studies and became a Master of Arts, when he was only twenty years old. Destined for a brilliant career, he preferred the company of brigands. A delinquent, he fatally wounds a priest during a fight. A traveler, despite himself, François VILLON in 1458 met with some success in the Blois competition organized by Charles d´Orléans. The latter, under house arrest by the English, wrote and organized literary events to kill his boredom.

Of all the work of François VILLON, we will especially remember the "Ballade des Pendus" which he wrote when he was certain of being condemned to death. Eventually his sentence was commuted to exile.

In 1463, François VILLON disappeared without leaving any traces, making it impossible to date his death.

Even today, François VILLON is considered the first French poet in the history of Literature.
