La Rue de la MASSE est la première partie de la vieille route qu’il fallait parcourir pour aller d’Aix à Marseille. Elle porte le nom d'une ancienne auberge appelée Hôtellerie de la Masse fondée en 1416.

L’emblème de cet établissement ne représentait pas l’outil, formé d’une lourde tête métallique fixée à un long manche servant à casser, mais bien l’arme de guerre formée d’un manche souple avec à son sommet une tête métallique garnie de pointes.

Au n°3 : Le très bel Hôtel des Augustins. Si la réception de cet établissement a pris place dans l’ancien chœur de l’église du couvent du même nom, d’autres commerces laissent voir l’architecture religieuse de cette construction dans cette rue.  




Rue de la MASSE is the first part of the old road that had to be taken to get from Aix to Marseille. It bears the name of an old inn called Hôtellerie de la Masse founded in 1416.

The emblem of this establishment did not represent the tool, formed of a heavy metal head attached to a long handle used to break, but the weapon of war formed of a flexible handle with at its top a metal head trimmed of spikes.
