The Rue des CARDEURS received this name in the 17th century : a carder was a craftsman who spun wool using his cardoon and proposed, among other things, to renovate the mattresses. He would unstitch them before unraveling the wool that had become compacted and warped with wear and tear. Then he painted it before stuffing and stitching up the mattress again. Once the job was done, it was like new ... until the next year.
Place des CARDEURS as we know it today was created in 1963 after the demolition of a central block of unsanitary houses located between Rue des CARDEURS and Rue VIVAUT, the name of an old family.

Before the metal combs we used a dry thistle also called "cardoon" at the origin of the name of the old trade of carder.
In the Rue VIVAUT was once the synagogue of the city.

DECISION OF OCTOBER 25, 1978: La Place becomes the CARDEURS forum
"The name of Forum des Cardeurs will be given to the Place des Cardeurs to prevent confusion from occurring in the minds of the population or during the distribution of mail in relation to the Place des Tanneurs and the Place des Prêcheurs whose he appellation is quite similar to Cardeurs"
