Dans ce quartier, il y avait la Rue DEGUERRE, nom d’une famille peu connue qui y habitait au XVIIe siècle. Après l’extinction de cette famille, beaucoup d'Aixois pensaient que la Rue DEGUERRE était la Rue « de la GUERRE » et la plaque posée ensuite retient ce dernier nom.
Une rue voisine fut construite et fut baptisée, par opposition à la guerre, Rue de la PAIX, nom qu’elle porte encore aujourd’hui. Le plus incroyable est que plus tard, la Rue DEGUERRE devenue Rue de la GUERRE par odonymie fonctionnelle, est renommée Rue du ONZE NOVEMBRE 1918, fête de l’Armistice qui marque la fin de la Première Guerre mondiale.
Visiblement, aucun des premiers conseillers municipaux attribuant l'odonyme « PAIX » à une nouvelle rue et les seconds changeant la Rue de la GUERRE en Rue du ONZE NOVEMBRE 1918 ne connaissait l'existence de la famille DEGUERRE.
In this neighborhood, there was Rue DEGUERRE, the name of a little-known family who lived there in the 17th century. After the extinction of this family, many Aixois thought that the Rue DEGUERRE was Rue de la GUERRE or “WAR Street” and the plate placed thereafter retains this last name.
A neighboring street was built and was baptized, in opposition to the war, Rue de la PAIX or “PEACE Street”, the name it still bears today. Most incredible is that later, Rue DEGUERRE, which became Rue de la GUERRE by functional odonymy, was renamed Rue du ONZE NOVEMBRE 1918, the Armistice Day which marked the end of the First World War.
Obviously, none of the first municipal councilors attributing the odonym “PEACE” to a new street and the second changing the Rue de la GUERRE into the Rue du ONZE NOVEMBRE 1918 knew of the existence of the DEGUERRE family.
