"Fonteto", a Provençal word translated into French "fontete" means "small fountain". In the Middle Ages, there were several small natural springs here, several fountains, which the people of Aix reached by staircase. In 1676, the ground was paved in order to facilitate the movement of the inhabitants and the sources were grouped together to supply a single well which will be abandoned in 1715. It was not until 1858 that the municipality decided to rebuild the current fountain supplied by the water of the Pinchinats.

To see :

At the corner with the Forum des CARDEURS : Enamel sign advertising for KUB broth. This advertisement, which dates from the 1920s, is watched over by an oratory.

At the top of the Fountain : a statue of a young newt rides a turtle and blows a horn, free and peaceful. In fact, it is the replica to the original made in 1988, (after a theft), by the School of Arts and Crafts, still faithful to the Aix fountains. Note that the newt is missing an arm.
