Un promeneur parcourant le cours SAINT-LOUIS à Aix-en-Provence pourrait croire que le nom de ce cours rend hommage au Roi LOUIS IX (1214-1270) qui fut canonisé en 1297.
En fait, Henri de Lorraine, gouverneur de Provence, ordonne en 1612 la création d'une nouvelle porte. Celle-ci portera le nom du roi régnant sur la France à cette époque, à savoir LOUIS XIII.
Ce dernier visitera la ville d'Aix en 1622. Il émet le souhait que le cours à promenades qui se prolonge au-delà de la porte soit bordé d'arbres. Ce n'est qu'en 1666 que l'on plante des ormeaux et des trembles. Ceux-ci ne supportant pas le climat seront abattus en 1859 pour être remplacés par des platanes.
Il est à remarquer que le Cours SAINT-LOUIS à l'époque est l'actuel Cours des ARTS et MÉTIERS. Tandis que le Boulevard SAINT-LOUIS (voie qui borde les remparts) est devenu par erreur le Cours SAINT-LOUIS (voie perpendiculaire aux remparts).

A walker browsing the Cours SAINT-LOUIS in Aix-en-Provence might believe that the name of this course pays homage to King LOUIS IX (1214-1270) who was canonized in 1297.
