Bertrand de JOUQUES lived in the 14th century without knowing the exact dates of his birth and death.

He was the "First Syndic" of the city of Aix in 1377, then again in 1381. The "Syndics" were appointed for a period of one year by the inhabitants in order to defend the interests of the community.

In 1382, LOUIS d´Anjou went to Avignon to receive the oaths of loyalty from the lords and towns of Provence. He wants to free Queen JEANNE, his benefactress who adopted him and declared him his universal heir. She is held prisoner by her cousin Charles DURAS, true successor to the kingdom of Naples and the county of Provence. The community of Aix and Bertrand de JOUQUES refuse this rallying and declare themselves in favor of Charles DURAS. Nice and Aix then opposed Arles and Marseille and there was then a real civil war in Provence. Five years later and the death of Charles DURAS, the Union of Aix loses its influence and in fact recognizes the supremacy of the House of Anjou over Provence
